So I am an avid fan of R&B, It is by far my fav genre of music. Not to say I don't like others, this just tops my list. My iPod is going to go on strike because of the following songs and/or albums:
Trey Songs' "Trey Day:" I have always loved his work and his voice is amazing. It's not like the very best thing in the world, but there's just something about it. He uses his vibrato
just enough so that it doesn't get annoying and the production of the album is fantastic. Some songs are very reminiscent of fellow R&B crooner R. Kelly in both singing style and lyrics. I really can't pick out a favorite becuase I honestly love the whole album.
Next Up is probably Trey's biggest competition right now due to their similar "r&b thug" approaches to the mic:
J. Holiday. He caught our attention with the summer hit "Bed" where he exhibited his flawless falsetto skills, and released his album the same day as Songz. I like his album but I do have a few favorites on here, becuase I cannot listen to it all the way through like I can Trey Day. Some of the songs are a little too thugged out for me, becuase addressing me as a mother-fu*ker isn't exactly my idea of romance, lol. But all in all it is a really great first album for the newcomer. My favs are "Suffocate," "Be With Me," & "Come Here." I recommend it.
And lastly not exactly a crooner, but someone who's new song is definitely on repeat is
Mary J. Blige's "Just Fine." A very fun, upbeat, and confident Mary teams up with none other than hit-maker "The-Dream" to create a sound that I love! The-Dream incorporates his signature sound of repetitive chorus', as displayed in Rihanna's "Umbrella," and his own "Shawty is a Ten." The lyrics are sooo inspirational and emphasize caring about yourself and taking pride in what you do. It comes from her upcoming release: "Growing Pains." I love it! Have a listen on her MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/maryjblige xoxo
